Understanding pigmentation
Pigmented spots are areas of discolouration where the skin produces more melanin. Sun exposure and ageing can contribute, as can hormonal changes, inflammation and certain skin conditions. Because the causes differ, treatment starts with an assessment of the spot and your skin.
At C Dermacare, we use Candela GentleMax Pro for selected superficial pigmented spots, often associated with sun damage. Pigment absorbs the laser energy and converts it into heat, with the aim of reducing the visible discolouration.
Which pigmentation can be treated?
We can assess spots on the face, hands, neck and other body areas. Not every pigmented spot is suitable for laser: its depth, cause and nature matter. An unclear or changing spot may need medical assessment first.
Hormonal pigmentation, such as melasma or the “pregnancy mask”, can worsen with treatment. We therefore discuss carefully whether laser is appropriate or a different approach is needed. We prefer to schedule pigmentation treatments in autumn or winter and explain sun protection and recovery beforehand.
